Periodontal Disease

Losing your beautiful smile isn’t the only reason to seek gum disease treatment and preventive maintenance. Your mouth is a mirror to the rest of your body. When the bacteria that cause gum disease are left untreated, you increase your risk of chronic illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, and stroke. That’s why gum disease treatment and prevention should be a top priority for you. Dr. Bellam & the team at Restore Smiles Dentaloffer periodontal treatment to promote health and wellness and prevent re-infection.

Signs you may need a deep cleaning:

Continuous bleeding when brushing and flossing
Bad odor to your breath that isn’t freshened by mouthwash
      Red and puffy inflamed gums
Large black triangles between your teeth represent the bone loss
Deep pockets where food and bacteria get caught beneath your gums
How do we treat it?

At Restore Smiles Dental, we do a full examination, and routine dental prophylaxis. It is accompanied by a complete set of dental X-rays and a full mouth pocket depth assessment.

After numbing your gums with anesthesia, ultrasonic instruments and hand scalers are used to gently remove the plaque buildup. The procedure typically lasts 60 minutes, and all steps are taken to ensure comfort during the entire process. If broken up into two separate appointments, Dr. Bellam will prescribe a medicated mouth rinse that is proven to improve the healing of your tissues in the week between your appointments.

Once completed, your Periodontal maintenance visits are essentially deep cleanings that keep your mouth fresh and healthy.
